Southern Style Hunting Pouches

Here are 2 pouches I've started. One with bear skin flap and the other is of hemp webbing stitched together... I have horns snd straps in the works....

Powder Measures

I cut these brass tubes down from 45-120's cartridges I had laying around. These I made to give away but I want to put some artistic thought into the next ones.. Twigs worked for plugging on these.

Early Ugglies

My youngest son wanted to stitch up a bag for his fire striker. I just happened to have some old hemp webbing.  So we made a few and tried to simplify them each. A recyclable item for primitive living.

Horse Quirt

Here's a stick I carved to resemble a horse. The hardest thing was to find a bent stick... I spent a few days walk to find that darn stick...

Homespun pillow tick rope

I took a bit of time and twisted a homespun rope today. It something simple yet quite usefull for frontier living. Mine is going in my haversack, maybe to string a line to dry my snow soaked mocs over a fire.....

Stretched Ear - Close Up

Here is a willow hooped stretched ear. Is it Custer's ear ????? If it was its on my pipe axe now....

Gun Barrel Pipe Axe

Here is an axe head I purchased a long time ago. I copper wire wrapped the handle and added the ear hoop.

Spontoon Axe and Hand with beaded strips

I have 3 things here in this picture. The axe head was made by my brother, the axe handle and hand was made by me and the beaded strips were made by Roy Martin..

Battle Collected Body Parts

A few folks have been asking about my fingers and ears well here ya go.... As for the eastern wampum  bag I traded for it and don't know the maker.

Rocker Engraving on brass

Here is my first attempt at a new craft. Thanks to a friend for showing me the correct tool and how to use it. Here are a few of my examples.

Grizzly Bear Claw reproductions

Another batch of claws, 40 to be exact. My client will be very happy !!

Bear Root ( osha root )

I researched this spring all about this root. My first chance to explore I found it at 10,000 foot elevation but very small carrots. The second outing I hit the motherlode, I was passing up smaller shoots seeking the 3 foot tall stems. I am glad to say its easy to find but do your research as there is a poisonous Hemlock that looks the same..

Beaded bottles

On the right is an original beaded bottle from my collection. And on the left is my hand beaded bottle I made also I added tin cones with red dyed horse hair..

Plains Indian Wooden Toy Horses.

I wanted to add a unique idea to my toy horses. I researched pre civil war wooden ammo boxes and most if them were stenciled in some way. Using rough cut lumber I cut these horses and aged a paint job on them..

Plains Indian Awls

Here are several Awls made from materials the Indians would have had. Old forks were recycled along with 50-70 and 45-70 brass shells also with Awls stuck in them.

Bison Parfleche Cutouts

Made from buffalo hide I cut them out and inscribed a simple pattern on them. The bear is a very strong animal and respected among the Plains Indian, also is a bone whistle.

Muslin Ledger Dress

I made a simple muslin dress and and drew a ledger scene on both front and back. She holds her husbands coup stick and proudly displays a dog skin bag. Last she wears a parfleche bonnet with a bear paw motif .

Arrow Making Tools

I have a friend shot a moose last fall and I salvaged the legs to skin for a leg bag. I did save a few bones for the tools seen here... A moose toe bone wrench with a square hole, a 3 hole tool with various sized holes and an original arrow shaft sander made from sandstone.

3 Legs Shooting Bag

Ever heard the story of 3 legs ?? Well neither have I !!   I put this shooting bag together hand stitched with linen thread and a woven hemp strap. I did make a fine trade with this item.

Rocker Engraving

My real first attempt at engraving on brass. A simple buffalo motif and a few stars, I then tied it to a strand of beads. My youngest boy liked it do much he
claimed it ..

Horse Mirror Board

Cigar Signs

I am always flipping my artistic ability. My day job consists of making signs, so naturally I make signs at home also. I hand drew the lettering and then hand painted them. One of these I gave to my brother who loves cigars !!

Harpers Ferry Ammo Box

I have done a bit of research on pre civilwar wooden ammo boxes. I used some pallet lumber and created a stencil. My main concern was to indianize the piece. For some reason I try to make pieces that have some form of native use. The construction was a plain box with a rawhide hinge and a few beads and a broke off arrow point. Maybe it was captured during a battle ? Who knows ??

My art and photography

Here is a headdress and necklace I made with my oldest boy... We were goofing off so I painted half his face slapped some lore on him and took a few pictures. I then converted the colors on the computer . It turned out really cool... I should pursue more photography with my native creations ...

Lunch time doodle

I'm always creating new ideas, here was a quick doodle with a sharpie pen on clear acetate. I may work this out into a larger scale piece here soon.

Incised Bear Paw - on buffalo rawhide

Using up a piece of scrap buffalo ( Wyoming wild buffalo harvested on Shadow Mountain ) I incised a simple design. Made for a friend whom don't know it yet.

Parfleche Sword Hanger

I have a quest to simplify recycled Plains Indian garb. Living off the land and using what was found and recycled. Here is a old Spanish sword without a scabbard and I took a recycled piece of parfleche and added a simple strap..

Dog Bag

An interesting thing about researching Plains Indian Regalia is how things were used. A camp dog for instance was used to pack, guard, eat and utilize. Nothing was simply thrown away. I made this bag from a coyote I had shot. I slipped the hair and braintanned then beaded the legs.

Buffalo Horn Braclet

Here is the end of a huge buffalo horn I carved for a powder horn. The shear size of the scrap made me think . I carved and painted red dots around the bottom and incorporated bear ears for the top.

Assorted plains indian items.

Whistles, spoons, deer toe rattles.

Flash from the past !

Here is one of my necklaces I made 10 years ago. I cast and paint all the claws to extreme detail . A simple necklace laced up together with otter fur.

The Kisser

I carved this piece 2 years ago from a maple tree branch. I rasped, carved, chiseled, filed, dremeled and sanded the heck outa this branch. I had several weekends into making sense out of this piece of wood. Needless to say its a killer piece.....

Parfleche Round Bottom & Antelope Horn Slip Cover Case

I have here a Sioux style round bottom parfleche and a antelope horn container. The parf is painted front and back laced with rawhide and red trade wool. The antelope horn has a beaded slip cover and it would have kept such things like natural medicines.

Crow Medicine Parfleche

I have just finished this piece after a 5 year process . I made the kidney style parfleche long before a design was found. I have seen one of these that was called a Crow Counting Bundle. Needless to say willow sticks used for counting or horse stealing ?. The little parfleche envelope and counting sticks made a perfect relationship.
